Waste Services

Trash

Trash and recycling bins may be ordered through City Hall.  Trash service is billed on your monthly water bill.

  • Trash and recyclable items are picked up on Monday of every week by Legacy Disposal Services.
  • All trash must be bagged before placed in bins and recycling must be free in bins (not bagged).
  • No trash will be taken that is left outside of the trash container.
  • Bins should be placed at the street curb by 7:00 a.m. Monday morning and no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the night before. When placing bins at the curb put the lid opening of the bin towards the street and put the wheels of the bin away from the street towards your home. If possible, do not place the bins near your mailbox and put them on your driveway on the opposite side of the mailbox area.  Doing this will allow the trash truck to easily pick-up the bins and properly dump them into the truck.
  • Bins should be removed from the curb by 8:00 a.m. the following day.

If your trash and recycling bins are not picked up by Monday evening, please contact City Hall by phone or email to report it by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The city will attempt to get all missed bins picked up before the next trash service day, but can't guarantee this.

On holidays observed by Legacy Disposal Services,  Mountain Park's collection day will be Tuesday.

Recycling

Recycling is required of all City residents.

The City of Mountain Park has a great recycling program. Everyone participates, and as a result, we keep a large volume of material out of landfills. Before you recycle, try to reduce the amount you recycle by reusing items to keep them out of the recycle stream.

  • Reduce the amount you recycle.
  • Make wise packaging selections. Select products that are not wasteful in their packaging.
  • Practice composting
  • Reuse containers and products.
  • Buy only what you need and use what you bought
  • As much as possible, buy products with recycled content

Yard Waste

Residents are encouraged to recycle all yard debris by mulching and composting.

Legacy Disposal offers yard waste curbside collection if you are unable to mulch or compost. Yard waste guidelines are listed below.

  • Grass clippings and leaves should be bagged or placed inside a container for removal. Bags and containers should not exceed 35lbs each.
  • Brush and limbs should be cut in 3-foot lengths, 4 inches in diameter and bundled no larger than 2 feet in diameter (armful size) with rope or twine.
  • Dirt, sand, sod, and mulch is not considered yard debris and should not be placed out for removal.
  • Up to 3 bags or bundles of yard material, not debris due to landscaping renovation or tree removal, will be collected.

Bulk and Special Garbage Items

Oversized bulk items, large household items such as appliances and construction or renovation material can be scheduled for removal for a fee. Items must be scheduled in advance with Legacy Disposal (770-688-9515)  and pre-paid for removal. Bulk and special waste must be placed curbside for collection. Items that cannot be safely removed by Legacy Disposal will not be collected.

Dumpster

As a service to our residents, the City of Mountain Park provides a dumpster twice a year. This is on a first-come, first serve basis. In order to ensure that it is available to all please adhere to the following guidelines:

  •  One truckload or trailer load per resident address.
  • All yard debris must be cut into 3 feet sections or less.
  • Items not allowed in dumpster: concrete/brick, dirt, gravel/rock, paint, ashes, oil/grease, hazardous waste, chemicals, sewage, metal or plastic drums/barrels, anything containing freon, batteries
